Did you ever think this day would actually come? The UK’s first ever “Bio-Bus” (Poo Powered Bus) will be hitting UK roads next month. Bristol will be the first area to be serviced by the biomethane gas powered bus. The bus will be able to seat a maximum of 40 people and will operate 4 days a week on a local route.
Where will it get the fuel from?
The Poo Powered bus will use waste from more than 32,000 households along its 15-mile route. It will fill up at a site in Avonmouth, Bristol, where sewage and food waste is turned into biomethane. The bus will be able to travel up to 300km on one tank of gas, which takes the annual waste of about five people to produce.
When will we see more Biomethane powered busses?
Initially if this route proves to be a success then the current operator (First West) will trial more routes. If it becomes a sustainable success then there is nothing to say we will not see these busses rolled out throughout the UK.
It may not be long till we see them in action in London; it will definitely help London Recycle Waste more.
The MD of First West was very proud of being able to bring the Biomethane bus to Bristol first, he said “Since its original unveiling last year the Bio-Bus has generated worldwide attention and so it’s our privilege to bring it to the city, to operate, quite rightly, on Service 2.”
