With the August bank holiday looming many will be thinking about clearing out their loft, garden, shed or house.

Boris Johnson’s London infrastructure plan was launched for consultation this week. According to the plan the existing waste management infrastructure in London “is not suitable” for a planned move to a circular economy and that there is a “lack of financing mechanisms to help develop the necessary facilities”.
According to the mayor’s infrastructure plan, in order to create a circular economy by 2050 the following changes need to be made:
- Simplified and consistent waste and recycling collection throughout all London boroughs
- Revised and improved financing for waste in London
- 40 new waste management facilities – many for reuse and recycling – are required in London
The plan addresses the increase in population growth over the past 10 years, according to the mayor’s report London’s population will surpass 8.6 million early next year. By the 2030s, it adds, the capital’s population will reach 10 million, increasing to 11.3 million by 2050.
