How to recycle common household items

Recycling is becoming more and more common every day. It can be hard to get in to the habit of recycling each and every item that you come across. Most people would probably recycle 8 out of every 10 items which is a good number, but we want to bring that number higher.

The best way to recycle household items is to have two separate bins. One for your general waste and one for all the recyclables. It’s understandable that you may miss some items but it’s time to go out of your way to recycle. Recycling doesn’t only mean that you send it off to be broken down and re used. You can always use your creative side and re use it yourself.

Here are some of the way you can recycle your common household items.

Waste collection

There are many ways to get rid of your unwanted waste. One of the easiest ways is to get a waste disposal company to come and collect all your waste. Household waste collection has become very common due to the fact that it is so easy and hassle free. All you have to do is, gather all the items you want to dispose of and keep it to a side. Once you feel you have a sufficient amount, you can call up a waste disposal company and book an appointment for collection. Once it’s booked, the household rubbish disposal company will send down a few men (if needed) to load your items on their vehicle and off it will go to be recycled and reused.

Reuse

Reusing your household items is a clever way of recycling. There are items that you could make your own by just using a little brain power. It helps keep your creative juices flowing and it helps keep the environment safe. The more effort we make to recycle and reuse the less landfills will be needed. Here are some ideas of things you could reuse instead of throwing away.

Milk container: A milk container can actually be turned into a number of things. Your plant pots will usually have holes at the bottom for excess water to escape, but this is for outdoor use. If you wanted to use it indoors, you can cut your milk container in half and use it as a plant holder. Once your plant is in the container you can slip the container into a plant pot and now it will hold the water in, instead of leaking from the bottom.

Dish soap bottles: once your dish soap is finished you can recycle it, but why not make it into a watering bottle. Most washing up bottles are usually made to be durable. This makes it perfect to reuse as a watering bottle. Once you have thoroughly cleaned it out, you can fill it up with water and keep it next to your plants for some quick hydration.

Margarine tubs: All your margarine tubs, yogurt tubs and any sort of tubs can be washed out and used to hold left overs. People spend money on containers to keep left over food refrigerated. Why not reuse your old tubs as food containers? Not only will it save you money but it will help you stay green.

Shoe boxes: some people actually keep their shoes in shoe boxes to prevent them from getting dirty. For those who throw them away, why not make them into storage containers. It’s an easy way to keep all your storage items together and organised. If you were ever to go back to them, they will be easy to locate.
