London’s becoming more popular and recycling is becoming more of an issue. It is expected that London will have over 18 million visitors in 2015, winning it the accolade of the most popular city on the planet.
On the plus side the capital’s stock will rise as it is predicted that tourist will be spending roughly around 13 million over the course of the year. This adds a strain on the city’s infrastructure as recycling has just become more of an issue. London is terrible at recycling and landfills are being over used which damages London’s green credentials.
Boris Johnson who is the mayor of London said “I’m delighted that London has proudly held on to this coveted title, as we celebrate another triumphant and record-breaking year for tourism in the city.
“With London’s unrivalled mix of history, culture, culinary gems and cutting-edge creativity, I’m confident that these accolades will keep coming as the capital continues to surprise and excite visitors from all over the world.”
However, taking that in to account, he has not addressed the recycling issue which needs attending to. Research shows that people in London do not recycle and this has a huge impact on its green credentials. Supermarkets waste food by not recycling out of date food. This also adds to the recycling issue as it could be given to charities rather than being disposed.
